What a wild and wonderful evening the wingding was this year! The Sierra Sweethearts serenaded volunteers, community partners, staff, friends and family while we enjoyed dinner from La Vecchia, Craig Demetras, and Chuy’s followed by desserts from Laughing Planet and Homage. Cheers to them and also to Craft Reno for providing beer!
This past Saturday, December 14, 2019, 11 volunteers, joined Friends’ Communications and Outreach Coordinator, Shi-Lynn, to clean up Lovell Canyon. In all, 16 bags of trash were collected totalling over 500 lbs! The group scrambled between 4 campsites cleaning trash, blankets, clothes, a humidifier, a Coleman stove, plastic jugs, a doggie carrier and broken bottles discarded by recreationists this past camping season.

In 2015 REI created the Opt Outside campaign, wherein they closed 143 of their stores on Black Friday, the biggest sales day of the year for many companies, in order to promote outdoor recreation and call attention to unsustainable consumption.
