Backpacking and horse packing are the best ways to explore the Wovoka Wilderness for multiday trips. Dispersed camping in along the USFS roads in the northern Pine Grove Hills creates opportunities for base camping and day hikes into the Wilderness. There are two developed campgrounds near Wovoka Wilderness, both in the Walker River State Recreation Area. The Riverbend Campground is on the East Fork of the Walker River near Yerington and the Elbow Campground of the Nine Mile Ranch section of the Recreation Area is adjacent to the southern boundary of the Wilderness.
