Camping

Mount Rose Campground is situated at 9,000 feet just south of the summit of Highway 431. The campground contains 25 campsites including RV sites (no hook-ups), large two- and three-family sites, and walk-in tent sites. All sites include picnic tables and grills. The tent sites require short walks which offer stunning views of the Mount Rose Wilderness and the Nevada desert.

Across the highway from the campground is the Mount Rose Trailhead and parking area. From here you access the highest portion of the wilderness or enjoy a more leisure hike to the waterfall with the option of returning via the Tamarack Peak Loop, which presents expansive views of Lake Tahoe and granite peaks of Desolation Wilderness.

Mount Rose Campground is only open for a few months every year, because of the high altitude. Mount Rose Campground is generally open from early June through September.

Additional nearby camping includes the Washoe County’s Davis Creek Campground in Washoe Valley, offering 62 sites (no hook-ups) and showers from a small fee.

Numerous commercial campgrounds with full hook-ups can be found in the Reno area and in the Tahoe Basin.
