Join Friends for our November Wild Speaker Series, “The Amazing Geology of Frenchman Mountain and Rainbow Gardens - And Why We Should Protect It”, online in a Zoom presentation. Dr. Steve Rowland, professor emeritus of Geology at UNLV, is back with a new informative presentation for us. Dr. Rowland will explain the amazing geological makeup of Frenchman Mountain and the Rainbow Gardens. Located on the eastern edge of North Las Vegas, Frechman Mountain is a local favorite to hike and catch views of the Las Vegas Valley down below. Attendees will also learn about what is being done to protect this area and how you can help Frenchman Mountain and Rainbow Gardens gain increased protections. This will be an informative chat for the whole family.
Steve Rowland is an emeritus professor of geology at UNLV. His PhD is from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Rowland is a paleontologist with broad interests in various fossil groups and the geological and biological evolution of southwestern North America. His ongoing research projects include (1) the paleoecology of Columbian mammoths in Nevada and California, and (2) fossil trackways of dinosaurs and other animals in Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and Gold Butte. He is currently editing a book on the natural history of Death Valley and the Mojave Desert.
We will see you there!
