Camping

There are two established USFS campgrounds in the vicinity of the Ruby Mountains Wilderness: Thomas Canyon, located in Lamoille Canyon; and South Ruby, located about 9 miles south of the Harrison Pass Road adjacent to the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Additional diispered camping opportunities may be found on the public lands surrounding the Wilderness, however, many of the access routes to these public lands cross private property and may be closed to entry by the property owners.

The best way to explore and camp in this Wilderness is by horse packing or backpacking. The Ruby Mountains Wilderness present numerous secluded possibilities for backcountry camping. Please chose campsites that meet Leave No Trace criteria.
