Red Rock Canyon: Past, Present, Future
Join Friends as we welcome Tom Lisby, President of the Friends of Red Rock Canyon, as our September speaker. Tom will provide attendees with a historical summary of what it took to get Red Rock Canyon dedicated as a National Conservation Area. Tom will also explain the challenges of maintaining a National Conservation Area only 17 miles from Las Vegas, a city with over 2 million people and 54 million annual visitors. Come learn about what’s new at Red Rock Canyon and how you can get involved with the Friends of Red Rock Canyon and all of the awesome work they do!
Tom is the President of the Friends of Red Rock Canyon. Friends of Red Rock Canyon (FORRC) is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1984. The Friends’ mission is the protection and enrichment Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The Friends of Red Rock Canyon work toward their mission by supporting the BLM financially and with thousands of volunteer hours. Tom started volunteering at Red Rock Canyon NCA in 2013. To date, he has accumulated over to 3,000 volunteer hours. He is also the instructor for the volunteer training classes “Trails of Red Rock Canyon” and “Burros of Red Rock”.

Every first Thursday of the month, Friends of Nevada Wilderness hosts a local environmental expert at REI Boca Park in their Community Room. Doors open at 6:45 giving you enough time to socialize and grab a snack before the presentation begins at 7 pm.
