Beautiful Gold Butte: A Hidden Gem In The Mojave Desert

Join Friends for our March Wild Speaker Series, "Beautiful Gold Butte: A Hidden Gem In The Mojave Desert" online in a Zoom presentation. Brenda Slocumb, Operations Manager for the Friends of Gold Butte, will be our guest speaker. Gold Butte National Monument covers nearly 300,000 acres of remote and rugged desert landscape in southeastern Nevada, where dramatically chiseled red sandstone, twisting canyons, and tree-clad mountains punctuate desolate stretches of the Mojave Desert. The area is sacred to the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians and the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe and includes thousands of petroglyphs, and traces of human habitation, such as agave roasting pits and shelters, dating back over 12,000 years. Come learn how you can join the Friends of Gold Butte (FOGB) in ensuring Gold Butte's beauty is preserved for future generations. FOGB leads hikes to educate the public on the features and history of the monument. Volunteers can also sign up for cleanups to keep the landscape of Gold Butte natural. Find out how you can join organizers for the next planned event and learn more about what makes Gold Butte so special. This will be an educational presentation for the whole family

The Friends of Gold Butte is a non-profit organization that envisions a vibrant and healthy Gold Butte landscape where the land and wildlife, cultural resources, and solitude are preserved and accessible for the enjoyment of current and future generations. Their mission is to promote the responsible enjoyment of the Gold Butte National Monument through education, stewardship, advocacy, and preservation of natural and cultural resources.

We will see you there!

**UPDATE**

The Wild Speaker Series will go online during the COVID-19 Pandemic for the safety of our staff and supporters. Please join us on Zoom for an online interactive experience. We will return to REI - Boca Park in the near future.
