Dr. Jim Boone is a ecologist and owner of Las Vegas nature website www.birdandhike.com. On August 3rd he'll give a presentation titled, A Guide to Your Nevada National Monuments.
Nevada is home to two of America's newest National Monuments, Basin and Range and Gold Butte. Basin and Range National Monument is approximately 704,000 acres of remote, undeveloped mountains and valleys in Lincoln and Nye counties in southeastern Nevada. Gold Butte National Monument is located in Clark County, Nevada, northeast of Las Vegas and south of Mesquite. Gold Butte protects nearly 300,000 acres of desert landscapes featuring a wide array of natural and cultural resources, including rock art, sandstone towers, and important wildlife habitat for species like the Mojave Desert tortoise, bighorn sheep, and mountain lion. There are many areas of historical and cultural significance in our two National Monuments as well as miles of beautiful scenery for Nevadans to enjoy.
Dr. Boone will walk us through these magnificent monuments and give us details on wildlife, native plants, specific areas of interest and things to do when visiting. As you may know, President Trump is currently reviewing 27 National Monuments including Nevada's Gold Butte and Basin & Range. Come learn what you can do to protect the status of these indispensable public lands.
We'll see you there!
