Today our Executive Director Shaaron received a $10 roll of shiny new quarters from long time Friends of Nevada Wilderness member Roberta. No, they weren't for laundry--there is something special about these quarters.
LOOK! This quarter feature's Nevada's Great Basin National Park! This quarter was released into circulation on June 10th, 2013 and marked the 18th quarter released as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program.
At first Shaaron asked Roberta if she had done the sketch of the tree, because she recognized the drawing on the 'tails' side of the coin. It turns out that although the scene specific to the quarter was designed by Ronald D. Sanders and sculpted by Renata Gorgon, Roberta has in fact sketched that very same Bristlecone Pine before. As a long time employee of Great Basin National Park, Roberta knows the landscape like the back of her hand...or a quarter.
So if you collect quarters, love wild Nevada, or ever find yourself scrounging for change for a parking meter, be sure and watch for one of Nevada's gems, Great Basin National Park!
