Join the Friends of Nevada Wilderness for a lovely restoration project and educational hike. Our project will be focused on the restoration of a decommissioned road located next to Spirit Mountain Wilderness. By vertical mulching the old route we will return a wild appearance to the area and allow for natural restoration. This project will help protect the pristine nature of our beloved wildernesses next door.
We'll then enjoy a short quarter-mile hike along Grapevine Trail, stopping at a petroglyph panel to hear local experts speak about the area. Here is a tentative itinerary; I hope you'll join us for a fun day cleaning up and learning about this rugged landscape.
7:30am Meet at Fiesta Parking Area
9:30am Decommissioned Road Restoration Project
12:15pm Drive to Grapevine Trailhead & Break for Lunch
1:00pm Listen to Speakers at Petroglyph Panel
3:30pm Depart Grapevine for Fiesta Parking Area
This project is located in the far southern reaches of Nevada (Telephone Cove), so I'll be organizing a carpool in the parking lot of the Fiesta Hotel & Casino in Henderson at 7:30am, Saturday, April 14th, 2018. Please park in the Northeast corner of the outdoor parking area, immediately next to Lake Mead Blvd and a bus stop. There will be limited space available in our vehicle, so please be prepared to drive your personal vehicle or carpool others in your vehicle, if interested.
Be sure to come prepared with sunscreen, water, lunch and appropriate clothing for a wild day under the sun in the desert. We'll supply gear (gloves, tools, etc.), snacks and extra water. Be sure to RSVP and please contact Nicholas Scritchfield with any questions or for more information at [email protected] or (715) 220-7974.
