SMNRA Back Country Clean Up

Join us for a unique project in the Mack's Canyon area of the Mount Charleston Wilderness. We'll be focusing on removing miles of irrigation tubing from the Wilderness area. This tubing is typically used to divert water from natural springs, degrades the habitat, and doesn't break down. Even years after being abandoned, the impacts remain. On past similar projects, it is not uncommon to remove over two miles' worth of pipe.

This project will take us 2 to 4 miles off-trail into a remote area. We’ll work together to break down and remove the piping by cutting and bundling it together, consolidating any other trash, and hiking it out. Some of the hiking will require crossing stretches of loose surface and steep inclines.  By participating, you are helping remove this plastic that doesn't break down in our natural ecosystem.

This project is supported in partnership with the Lincoln Dynamic Foundation, whose support is helping restore multiple springs across southern Nevada this year.
