Join us for a Graffiti Clean-Up at Turtlehead Peak in collaboration with our friends at the Bureau of Land Management and Friends of Red Rock Canyon!
Do glimpses of garish gobs of paint in Red Rock Canyon grind your gears? Does the sight of serene canyons sprayed and scrawled upon make your skin crawl?
Of course it does! It's truly - and literally - criminal!
So lend us a hand, and we'll loan you a brush! And together, we'll clean up Turtlehead Peak!
We'll meet at 8:00am on Friday April, 17 at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center by the flagpole, and then carpool to the Turtlehead Peak trailhead.
From there it's a strenuous 4.6 mile roundtrip hike, with plenty of paint to remove on the way.
*** This is a VERY steep, uneven and rocky, trail. Please keep this in mind when RSVP'ing. Turtlehead Peak is an extremely strenuous hike! ***
What We'll Have: all the gear needed to remove graffiti - wire brushes, paint remover, water, and safety gear like goggles and gloves. We'll also have snacks and cold water for you to fill your bottles.
What You Need to Bring: please wear long pants, closed toe shoes, and absolutely nothing you'd be concerned about getting paint on. You may get paint on your clothes, and it may not wash out! Snacks, water and something to put water in, and elbow grease are also highly recommended! Sunscreen or a hat are recommended, there is no shade on the trail.
How We Do It: There's no special skill involved, just scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing! We'll apply a mild paint thinning solution to the afflicted rocks, wait a little bit for it set in, and then scrub with wire brushes, rinse and repeat.
See you on the trail! RSVP Today - Space is Limited!
