Join us Satruday, June 5th to Celebrate National Trails Day at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway!

To celebrate National Trails Day, help us prepare the trails at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway for reopening!  The SMVG is getting ready to reopen to the public - join Friends of Nevada Wilderness in cooperation with Go Mount Charleston and the US Forest Service to trim the trails, remove litter, and do a little maintenance on Saturday June 5th at 9:00am.

We're all eager to get back into the swing of things this Spring, and we'd like to invite you to celebrate National Trails Day with us at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway on Saturday, June 5th!  

What we're doing:  We will do light trail maintenance, some brushing and trimming of plants along the trails, and pick up any trash we spot.  We will also have time to discuss Responsible Recreation, Summer Safety, Leave No Trace principles, and explore the outdoor areas of the Visitor Gateway.

What you should know:  We will be working at the Visitor Gateway, but the visitor center itself will not be open.  Our volunteer efforts will be in preparation for the imminent Grand Re-Opening of the Visitor Gateway, sometime early this summer.  It will be HOT, so BRING WATER, a hat, sunscreen, snacks, and a lunch for yourself!  We will have water and snacks to share with you!  The restrooms at the visitor center will be closed - restrooms are available a short hike across Kyle Canyon Road from the parking lot, "backcountry facilities" (and a quick lesson on how to make them) will be available!

What you should wear:  Light layers are best for the summer in the Spring Mountains.  Long pants and closed-toe shoes are a must, and I personally suggest long sleeves or layers to protect from the sun.  If you have your own work/gardening/safety gloves - bring them along!
