Camping

The community of Gerlach, immediately adjacent the the Granite Banjo Wilderness, has several opportunities for lodging and RV parking.  The best option for experiencing this outstanding wild are is through backpacking and horsepacking. Opportunities for dispersed or boondock vehicle camping on or along the edge of the Black Rock Play can be found, weather dependent, as long as you are not visiting within the window of the Burning Man Event. Access to the Granite Banjo Wilderness can be blocked by private property surrounding the area. The BLM Land Use Maps can provide valuable information as to the best routes for access without intruding onto private property.  Contact the BLM Black Rock Field Office for more information. Be forewarned that the multitude of "roads" shown in atlases and on GPS navigational layers often do not exist, or are in such poor shape that they are impassible to most vehicles and/or are excessively abusive to 4x4 vehicles, drivers, and passengers. Check out Nevada Explorer Resources for more information about backcountry travel and safety.
