Help Us Help Our Friends at the Forest Service!

Join us in the evening on Thursday, August 28th, to paint wood ornaments to give to the Forest Service for the 2025 Capitol Christmas Tree.
The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree initiative is a 55-year tradition in which one of America’s 154 national forests provides a tree for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the holiday season. This year, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest was selected to provide the tree. The tradition of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, or “The People’s Tree,” began in 1964 when Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John W. McCormack (D-MA) placed a live Christmas tree on the Capitol lawn. Since then, a different national forest has been chosen each year to provide The People’s Tree, which includes a public engagement campaign to create connections and celebrate our national forests.
We are proud to be helping our friends at the Forest Service. Come by the northern Nevada office (1360 Greg St #111, Sparks, NV 89431) anytime between 4pm -8pm to help us make as many ornaments as we can! We will be painting wood slices with Nevada-inspired landscapes. No artistic experience needed! You can make your ornaments as simple or detailed as you'd like.
FNW will provide all the paint and supplies, as well as pizza and beverages for volunteers.
Not interested in painting? We still need volunteer help with sanding and stringing the slices!
