Learn about trail maintenance and conservation efforts in the Spring Mountains!

Join Friends and Litter Free LV as we cleanup Lovell Canyon. Lovell Canyon is part of the Spring Mountains Recreation Area and located west of Redrock Canyon near Highway 160. The canyon provides recreationists a bit solitude from the more crowded parts of the Spring Mountains Recreation Area like Kyle and Lee Canyons. However, remote areas like Lovell Canyon are sometimes used as dumping sites and abused by visitors. Friends of Nevada Wilderness is proud to have adopted Lovell Canyon Road and is committed to keep the area  Wild and clean.

For this project, we’ll meet in the parking lot of the Late Night Trailhead at 8:30 AM. From Late Night Trailhead, we will carpool to Lovell Canyon Road and begin picking up litter along the road within the first few miles. As we work our way down Lovell Canyon Road, we will stop at campsites and pullout areas to collect litter left behind by recreationists. This will be a low impact cleanup that will require vehicles during the entire event. Please be ready to carpool or volunteer as a carpool driver. We look forward to seeing you!

Difficulty Level: Easy - This project involves about .5 - 1 mile of hiking, at an elevation of 5,500ft, while carrying trash bags and water/snacks.  Participants need to be of a moderate general fitness level to move at a pace that will allow he/she to complete trailwork with relative ease. Participants should have some experience in the outdoors but this is not required. 

About the Trail -  Lovell Canyon Road is a little-used, paved backcountry road that runs north from Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Highway aka the road to Pahrump) into the wild backcountry of Red Rock National Conservation Area and the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Lovell Canyon Road is 11 miles long and provides access to the Rainbow Mountain and La Madre Mountain Wilderness Areas.

About the Trailwork - This project doesn’t require any prior trailwork experience. We will carpool to Lovell Canyon Road and pick up trash along the roadside and in several key camping areas.  

What You'll Need - Sturdy closed-toe shoes and long pants are required for this project. You’ll need a day pack and the capacity to carry about 1 liter of water, snacks and a lunch (we should be wrapping up around noon). You're responsible for your own transportation to and from the meetup area (Late Night trailhead). We will carpool from Late Night to Lovell Canyon.  

What We'll Have - We'll provide gloves, trash bags and hard hats (if needed). We'll also have ice cold water to refill your containers.
