Over the last 39 years, Friends of Nevada Wilderness volunteers have donated thousands of hours to keeping Nevada’s spectacular public lands wild and healthy. Our annual volunteer appreciation party, the Wilderness Wingding, is on December 15th, 2023, and we are partnering with dozens of local and national businesses and individuals to show our volunteers appreciation. Friends could not accomplish its work without the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers who join us on stewardship projects across the state. Friends’ volunteers encompass all ages and lifestyles from solo adventurers, climbers, and hikers to young couples, retirees, and families. All of them are extremely committed, loyal, and passionate about Nevada’s wild lands, our organization, and businesses that support our mission.
In 2023, Friends of Nevada Wilderness volunteers accomplished a lot for America’s public lands. Some highlights include:
- Removed over 31,269 invasive weeds in Mount Rose Wilderness, Reno’s wild backyard.
- Worked to protect threatened and endangered species including the whitebark pine and desert dace.
- Restored miles of hiking trails across Nevada.
- Maintained campsites and public-use cabins in popular recreation areas like the Black Rock Desert and Mt Rose Wilderness
- Hosted Alternative Spring Break events allowing college students to get outside and give back.
The annual Wilderness Wingding is our chance to say thank you to these volunteers and we couldn't do it without the following businesses and individuals who have donated raffle items, volunteer gifts, food, and drinks.
