During this year, our 40th anniversary as a nonprofit organization and the 60th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, we’re celebrating a history of protecting and caring for amazing wild places.

You know Nevada landscapes are special, and in recent years there’s been a growing awareness that part of what makes them special is not just below the horizon but above it. With the new Nevada Save Starry Skies license plate, we are expanding our legislative and stewardship efforts to include protection of the starry skies above our wildlands. In an era of ever-increasing light pollution, Nevada’s dark skies stand out as some of the darkest in the continental United States. There are still areas of the state where, under ideal conditions, the Milky Way shines so bright it can actually cast shadows. It’s a sight as beautiful as any waterfall, as majestic as a snowy mountain peak or desert canyon.
