Wilderness Area Status Wilderness Study Area Management Managing Agency: Bureau of Land Management Area Description The Pinyon Joshua Transition Natural Area is located about 12 miles southwest of the town of Silver Peak, Nevada. It was designated in 1965 (PLO 3530) because it represented the northern extreme of the Joshua tree. It was evaluated during BLM's Intensive Wilderness Inventory but found to lack wilderness character due to its small size. It will remain as the Pinyon Joshua Instant Study Area until Congress takes action. The unit to the south went on to become the Silver Peak Wilderness Study Area. |
