So, You’ve Met a Rattlesnake. Now What?
Join Friends for our June Wild Speaker Series, “So, You’ve Met a Rattlesnake. Now What?” at REI Boca Park. Bob McKeever, Herpetologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, will be our presenter on this important topic. As temperatures warm up, hikers and other outdoor recreationists have increased chances of running into rattlesnakes while enjoying life in the Mojave Desert. What should you do if you encounter a rattler? Where are rattlesnakes most likely to hide or dwell during these hotter months? Mr. McKeever will answer these questions and more. Come learn how to share the trail with our cold-blooded and venomous neighbors and meet Bob’s special guest. This will be an enlightening talk you will not want to miss!
Bob McKeever is a retired Park Ranger and current herpetologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The Nevada Department of Wildlife’s (NDOW) mission is to protect, conserve, manage and restore wildlife and its habitat for the aesthetic, scientific, educational, recreational, and economic benefits to citizens of Nevada and the United States, and to promote the safety of persons using vessels on the waters of Nevada.
We will see you there!
(**WARNING**: Mr. McKeever will bring a live rattlesnake onto the premises as part of his presentation. Not really a warning, we actually think this is super cool!)
Every first Thursday of the month, Friends of Nevada Wilderness hosts a local environmental expert at REI Boca Park in their Community Room. This is a great event for folks who are interested in the outdoors to learn more about hikes, local habitat, and ways to get involved with conservation efforts.
Doors open at 6:45 giving you enough time to socialize and grab a snack before the presentation begins at 7 pm.
Please join us at REI Boca Park every first Thursday for a new speaker every month!
