If you've every driven up Rocky Gap Road from the Scenic Loop, it's a beautiful place that gives us access to a really special part of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, within which can be found Rainbow Mountain Wilderness and La Madre Mountain Wilderness.
Unfortunately, there's immense resource damage caused by vehicles not staying on the designated road. Our job is going to be restoring one of those illegal routes - helping the land heal itself.
We use hand tools like pick mattocks, shovels, and rock bars to install a post barrier and actively restore the compacted soil.
A high clearance 4x4 vehicle is required to access the project site.
We will only drive part way up Rocky Gap Road, and hike with tools about 1/4 mile to the project site. **This is not a bad road - we stop short of the rocky, rough terrain**
