Join us in the Black Rock Desert on Saturday, June 5th! This single-day project will involve maintaining/restoring the Steamboat Mountain Trail, cleaning up trash, and placing interpretive kiosk/signage in the area. Steamboat Mountain has a short, 0.25 trail up to the top, allowing visitors a panoramic view of the playa and surrounding mountain ranges. There will be no group camping trip associated with the project, but you are welcome and encouraged to camp out on your own. This will be a great project for those people looking for an excuse to get out and camp in the beautiful Black Rock Desert while spending Saturday morning giving back with a community of volunteers.
Difficulty: Easy. Great project for families or those looking for easier work. There will be a handful of difficult/strenuous tasks, but there will be jobs available for all skill levels. It may not be appropriate for children under 12.
Date/Time: Saturday, June 5th, 9 am to early afternoon
Location: Steamboat Mountain, Black Rock Desert. An exact meeting location will be sent to those who RSVP
Travel: There will be no rides offered by FNW for this project. The drive does not require a 4-wheel drive vehicle but will involve traveling on maintained gravel roads and a short distance on dirt roads.
What to Bring: Plenty of water. Food: snacks and lunch. Sunscreen. Long Pants, sturdy shoes, and a long-sleeved shirt. A great attitude! FNW will provide tools, gloves, and any other safety gear.
Group Camping: There will be no official group camp for this project. Participants are welcome and encouraged to camp on their own (it's public land after all!)
