Back at it again on North Loop Trail! This will be our third weekend spent maintaining our backcountry trails in Mt. Charleston Wilderness. We'll be camping out on the trail at night and continuing our work to maintain the higher stretches of North Loop during the day. This weekend we will be joined by our partners from Team Red, White & Blue, whose mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity, as well as Team Rubicon, which unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
Level: Very strenuous. This project will start out with a 4.5 mile hike - up Trail Canyon and continuing along North Loop Trail to our base camp. Trail Canyon is a steep, 2 mile trail at a high elevation (7,700 - 10,000 ft) and North Loop Trail involves a more gradual climb. From basecamp we will be hiking an additional 1 - 2 miles each day while carrying tools, food, and water for yourself.
What You'll Need: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. A water reservoir or multiple water bottles. (We'll have plenty of water for refills.) Sunscreen, lunches, and snacks for yourself. Also bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent, and any other camping gear.
What We'll Have: Dinner for all! Coffee, hot water, and breakfast items. Pack support! If you'll be camping out, you can drop off your gear with us by Thursday, August 10th to have it packed up the trail by our friends with the Back Country Horsemen of Nevada. Your gear will be stashed near our basecamp along with the rest of our tools and supplies, safely awaiting our arrival on August 12th.
