Wilderness Area Status Wilderness Study Area Management Managing Agency: Bureau of Land Management Area Description Characterized by extremely rugged terrain and densely-wooded drainages, the Goshute Peak Wilderness Study Area provides outstanding opportunities for primitive and unconfined recreation. This is a great place for backpacking, hiking, camping, rock climbing and wildlife observation. The WSA measures 18 miles long and 8 miles wide. Hear you can find the signature trees of the Great Basin: juniper, white fir, limber pine, bristlecone and pinyon pine. Because the range lies so far east, the Rocky Mountain maple appears in the riparian drainages of the eastern canyons. Goshute Peak WSA provides a respite for up to 8,000 raptors each year from August to mid-October. It is part of the same migration route as the contiguous Bluebell WSA to the north. In addition, it supports the only known bald eagle, winter, communal-roosting tree known in the region. This is a fault-block range. Its up-thrown, western slope is characterized by steep, rocky canyons and limestone cliffs. Long, densely-forested drainages such as Lion, Felt, and Christmas Tree canyons, are present on the down-dropped, eastern side of the block.
