    Join us for a presentation about Weather Forecasting and a special emphasis on monsoons by Reid Wolcott, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service.  Reid makes reading weather systems easier to understand, a skill any outdoor adventurer should know.  Come with your questions!

    Friends of Nevada Wilderness is hosting a monthly meeting the first Thursday of every month and we're calling it our Wild Speaker Series! This is a great way for folks who are interested in conservation to learn about current issues. Arrive at 6:45 to socialize and snack before the presentation at 7 pm. Please join us at REI Boca Park every first Thursday for a new speaker every month!

    What a winter we've had. We are eager to hike and see how the invasive weeds are doing. Help us knock them out before they get established!

    Join us as we partner with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for the Annual Great Community Clean-Up!

    We will meet at the Michael S. Thompson trailhead at 7:30 am, more commonly known as the Hunter Creek trail. From there we will hike into the Mt. Rose Wilderness and spend a few hours removing Musk Thistle Rosettes. Afterwards, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful will be hosting a barbecue for all volunteers! Join us for a morning of giving back to our public lands and an afternoon of tasty treats!

    With Spring underway, what better way to enjoy the warm weather than hiking? Join us as we work on removing invasive weeds from the Mt. Rose Wilderness. Using shovels, we can most effectively reduce the population of Musk Thistle. Invasive weeds have many impacts on the native environment. From out-competing for resources to reducing water quality. The work is extremely rewarding and you get to experience some truly amazing country, all in our backyard Wilderness.

  • 12th Annual Black Rock Rendezvous - North 13 RSVPs

    Black Rock Desert

    We are gearing up for the 12th Annual Black Rock Rendezvous. Set aside Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29th for another great time in the desert!

    We plan to camp below Cassidy Mine on the playa, but this is subject to change due to weather. Partners this year again include Nevada Outdoor School, Friends of Black Rock-High Rock, and the BLM. We look forward to another great Dutch Oven Competition, so dust out your oven’s and start testing your secret recipes.

    We have identified a few projects and work may include helping the BLM retrofit a historical railroad tie cabin, installing the new NCA signs, and installing Wilderness boundary markers.

  • National Trails Day 2017 - North 8 RSVPs

    Steven's Camp, Black Rock Desert

    Celebrate your trails and join us for a great weekend of trail work and restoration! Camping again at Steven’s Camp, a public use cabin located at the north of High Rock Canyon. Built by Tennessee Ernie Ford and is a lovely oasis in the desert.

    We plan to continue maintenance on the Upper High Rock Canyon trail. In addition, this year we will be restoring the historical entrance sign and fence into Steven’s Camp.

  • Mt. Rose Wilderness Invasive Weed Monitoring #2

    With summer just around the corner, join us for a day of hiking on and off trail throughout the north portion of Mt. Rose Wilderness. We will be on the lookout for invasive weeds, from Medusa Head to Musk Thistle, and beyond. Come get a more intimate field experience and learn more about invasive weeds and why they are a problem.
