Wild Speaker Series

Welcome to Sloan Canyon National Recreation Area

Join Friends for our April Wild Speaker Series at REI Boca Park. Jim Stanger, president of Friends of Sloan Canyon, will give a presentation on one of southern Nevada's hidden gems, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Find out what the Friends of Sloan are doing to lead conservation efforts within the canyon and how you can get involved to protect this beautiful area. Jim will also detail areas of interest including hikes, petroglyphs sites as well as native plants and wildlife. Come learn about the future of Sloan Canyon including the new visitor's center, upcoming events and more.

Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area’s 48,438 acres provide peace and solitude for those who visit the unique scenic and geologic features and extraordinary cultural resources. The centerpiece of the area is the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site, one of the most significant cultural resources in Southern Nevada. Archeologists believe the more than 300 rock art panels with 1,700 individual design elements were created by native cultures from the Archaic to historic era. (via: BLM website)

We will see you there!

Every first Thursday of the month, Friends of Nevada Wilderness hosts a local environmental expert at REI Boca Park in their Community Room. This is a great event for folks who are interested in the outdoors to learn more about hikes, local habitat, and ways to get involved with conservation efforts.

Doors open at 6:45 giving you enough time to socialize and grab a snack before the presentation begins at 7 pm.

Please join us at REI Boca Park every first Thursday for a new speaker every month!
