Event Details

Join Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the Austin Ranger District (Forest Service) on a weeklong, wilderness-monitoring trek as we thru-hike the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail.

During July and August, Friends' volunteers, along with the Nevada Conservation Corps, cleared sagebrush from over 20 miles of the trail and installed 8 kiosks at the trailheads. They also placed 20 directional posts to help hikers access and locate themselves along this remote and expansive gem: the Toiyabe mountain range. The longest range in the state!

Now, we want to show off all our hard work. This trip will be moderately strenuous so backpacking experience and good physical fitness will be crucial. But ... the daily sections will not be very long averaging 9.6 miles a day for 7 days.

A shuttle will be needed between the Kingston and South Twin Trailheads, carpooling and transportation can be arranged.

Please contact Wes Hoskins, Forest Project Coordinator, at (775) 324-7667 (office) or (775) 762-6730 (cell).
